Frequently Asked Questions

What is Rope Access?

Rope Access is a fast, safe, and effective means of accessing and performing work at height in difficult areas.

Why is Rope Access Safe?

Rope Access Techniques have been proven through years of use in industry. Industrial climbing technicians use a two-rope system. The first rope is the main working line, and the second is strictly a safety backup. Each rope is secured to a separate anchorage and all equipment meets very strict testing standards. All technicians are trained in rescue techniques in addition to rigging, work positioning and access techniques.

Rope Access sounds interesting. How can I work in the industry?

The first step to getting into the rope access industry is to get certified as a rope access technician. In North America there are two main options for certification. IRATA (The International Rope Access trade Association) is a certifying body originating from Europe. IRATA is well established world-wide and is widely used in the Oil and Gas industry. SPRAT (The Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians) originated in North America and is quickly gaining recognition in the rest of the world. Either organization requires that cadidates participate in a 5-day course; 4 days of instruction and practice and 1 day of practical and written assessment. Once certified, a technician is qualified to work for a number of rope access companies in a variety of industries.
